Mmh, just the drive, is something filled with magic and adventure, with picnic spots on the roadside, reminding you to take a break and enjoy umphako, padkos in Afrikaans and yes, that little road trip food you carefully planned, prepared and packed for the road from the previous night. The roadside forever there benches and tables, tell you it’s time to picnic.
From the beautiful mountains, to rivers, seas and valleys….oh just the freshness of that unpolluted air no matter where in the province you are, invites you to just breathe. You cannot help but notice that you are indeed breathing nothing short of fresh air!
“Molweni" is sweetest and warmest word you will always hear from the locals, filled with smiles their eyes bearing a secret welcome that says "we see you”.
If not “molweni” a slight bow of acknowledgement will be there.
And what a sight those colourful Xhosa houses are? Have you ever seen such bright hues of pink, blue, green and soft gentle yellow? Those houses get painted each year to freshen the colour. It is a delicate job done by women tirelessly year after year before the summer rains come down…all this they will tell you, “silungiselel’u December”…translating “we are getting ready for December”.
Visiting the Eastern Cape, is but a treat to the soul! Whatever it desires, from inland to coastal. Did we mention rivers? Yes, they come in abundance.
